LANA Lao translation team

The Laotian American National Alliance (LANA) has established a Lao language translation committee. These are volunteers so there is no payment at this time. The volunteer translators represent varied geographical, gender, age and educational backgrounds. They are also highly committed to the Lao community. Each piece that is being translated can be translated by several persons depending on time available from volunteers and length of piece. Currently we are working on Census Talking Points and Letter to Elders. We have Health Talking Points, Naturalization Talking Points, Senior Talking points coming up to name a few.

We have increased our awareness of utilization of words, definition of words, and cultural appropriateness of the words. Some words may not translate well into Lao so we may use anglicized words, also depends on geographical usages of these translations throughout the US.

We are paying close attention to consistency, punctuation, fonts and have a team of field testers before final edits, graphics and printing.

The field test groups include:
Community groups, associations, etc..
Universities, Colleges
Individuals

Currently we have Lao Census materials translated and available. Others are on www.lana-usa.org. I have lost count how many I have uploaded.

Please let us know if you can participate to be on call for this process.

Thank you, Dara
