Cultural barriers of first generation Laotian women leaders in the U.S.: An exploratory qualitative study

There are plenty of generic backpacks and totes on the market. What’s missing is a functional and attractive bag that’s small enough to fit under an airplane seat yet large enough to keep all of your essentials at arms length.

We need to make sure our students develop the skills needed for their future and become responsible citizens of technology. In today’s increasing global economy and advance technology, we do not want to leave any students behind in the digital divide.

After 25 years of silence, the private Lao music and film industries are reawakening. This is a story about a small country with a big heart.

The contents of this book will enlighten readers of what it truly means to be born within Laotian culture and heritage. This book is dedicated to our mothers and fathers who left their lives in Laos to foster their children’s dreams in America.

Our logo of the rolling pin symbolizes the passing down of experiences and knowledge, from generation to generation, while continually to grow and evolve, ‘passing the torch’ if you may. We have a display of all the pins from the shops we have owned.

We will definitely return to Laos.  We are hoping to visit again in the near future but different time of the year when it is cooler. We want to visit family and explore new cities because we love to explore!

Center for Lao Studies’ Extravaganza Fundraiser 2017 is our biggest fundraiser to date. Saturday, October 14, 2017, 6:00pm-12:00am

I invested everything I had into creating what I felt missing for so long, but this time it became a personal venture — a need to bring back the flavors of nostalgia and the comfort of home. This October will mark 4 years of doing this, with about 70 videos to date.

In its eighth year, the LANA Annual Conference will take place July 28–29, 2017 in Elgin, IL. Recognizing the growing needs across various pillars of life and community among Laotian Americans throughout the US, this year’s program will largely focus on increased engagement and support for youth development, education, and elder care.

“We were deeply touched by how excited students and community members were to have their own creative space for learning, and are honored to have been a part of something big—contributing to a better education for hundreds of students.”

The main purpose of the clothing line is to empower all Lao people, young and old, with knowledge of our history and culture. We use daily attire and street wear as the medium to teach our children and to share our proud heritage with confidence and pride.

Bida Manda is named in honor of the owners’ parents, who instilled in them the love of food and its power to bring people together.

My purpose is not only to help, but to empower women. There was a time when I considered packing everything up to go volunteer with the Peace Corps. Becoming a lawyer was a practical option because of my family obligations.
